• Augment a small pit

Let's say you only have access to 3 quality musicians, but you are performing a show orchestrated for 15. Instead of sacrificing the quality of the production by reducing the orchestration for just those players, have Sinfonia® fill out the rest of the pit while still fully utilizing the performers you have available.

Or, if you are intending to play the show only on a piano, have that person play Sinfonia® instead!

• Customize the sound for your theater

Whether you have a basic sound system or a state-of-the-art system, Sinfonia can be customized to your setup. You can separate out the strings from the brass from the piano and run each through separate channels on your mixer, allowing your sound technician to finely tune the mix. Or use the basic setup and get the full sound of Sinfonia through a single stereo output.

• Transpose, cut, repeat, vamp

With Sinfonia, transposing a song to a new key is easy and takes only minutes! You can also pre-program cuts, repeats and vamps within the music to create arrangements specifically for your production.

• Dynamic controls

With Sinfonia®, you follow the conductor just like any instrumentalist would. Speed up, slow down, create emergency vamps on the fly. No matter what happens on stage or on the podium, Sinfonia® can adapt.

• Hear the difference

We believe that the best way to get a real sense of Sinfonia® is to see it in action. For this reason, we offer a free trial version of each of the shows in our catalog. Download your free trial today to test it out! The trial version has exactly the same sound quality and functionality as the full version; the only difference is that it restricts you to the first few songs of the show.

Additionally, the following audio demo demonstrates pretty well what the product can bring to your production.

The recording imagines a very small production of CARMEN performed by a nine piece ensemble: eight acoustic instruments plus Sinfonia®. In this live recording, the eight acoustic musicians first play the famous CARMEN theme by themselves. They then immediately repeat the theme, but are this time joined by the Sinfonist. The point of contrast - a small band playing without and then with Sinfonia® - is to demonstrate how well Sinfonia® helps eight instruments sound like fifty.

• Hardware system setup

The following information applies to the Sinfonia hardware system, but may still have some useful information for download customers who need assistance with setting up their personal equipment.

Headphones are not included with your Sinfonia rental but we do strongly recommend buying or locating a pair for testing your audio setup. For a more detailed version of these instructions including diagrams and information on connecting to your sound system, please see the Quick Start section of the documentation.

When you receive your Sinfonia® system, you should find the following items inside the box:

  • 1 laptop computer with power brick
  • 1 MIDI controller keyboard
  • 1 audio interface
  • Cables - 1 firewire, 1 usb
  • 1 USB keypad
  • various documentation and shipping return materials
  • A USB memory stick for backups (this is yours to keep)

To set up the system, do the following:

  1. Connect the square, magnetic end of the power cord into the left back corner of the computer. Plug the other side into a clean dedicated power source. (This power source should not be shared with any other device).
  2. Connect the MIDI keyboard to the computer with the USB cable. The flatter connection of the cable connects to either USB port on the left side of the computer. The other side of the cable connects to the back of the MIDI keyboard.
  3. Connect the USB number pad to the other USB port on the left side of the computer.
  4. Connect the audio interface to the computer with the firewire cable
  5. Plug in headphones with a 1/4" jack to Headphone Jack 1 on the front of the device

At this point, you are ready to power on your Sinfonia® system! Before you turn on the computer, make sure that the audio interface power button is pressed into the "on" position. You can now turn on the computer by pressing the power button on the top right corner of the laptop's keyboard. You should see lights on the audio interface flash. After a minute or two, the computer will land on a log-in screen. Click the icon next to "RMS". Sinfonia will now launch.

Test playback by pressing the "PLAY" key on the MIDI keyboard! You should now hear the orchestration for the first song of your show begin to play.

Once you have confirmed that the Sinfonia® system is working properly, you should spend some time with the documentation and get to know Sinfonia® forward and backward!
